Michael Douglas 'very disappointed' by Edgar Wright's exit on Marvel's Ant-Man

Source : hitfix.com

Over the weekend, Marvel confirmed Peyton Reed as the new director of "Ant-Man," with "Anchorman" and "Step Brothers" mastermind Adam McKay working on the script. Previously, McKay was rumored to direct the film, but he ultimately passed on that job.

Reed steps in to fill the void left by Edgar Wright, who exited "Ant-Man" late last month due to creative differences with Marvel. However, even with a new director in placed, there’s an air of disappointment surrounding the Wright’s departure from the long-developing project.

“I was very disappointed,” Michael Douglas, who plays Hank Pym, told Schmoes Know. “I’m a big fan of his movies. It was a very disappointing situation. It happened very late into the game. I don’t think anybody’s quite recovered.”

“My heart goes out to Edgar,” he continued. “He’d been involved with the project for a long time. But he’s talented enough that you’ll be hearing a whole lot from him, and I’m sure with a little vengeance.”

Opening July 17, 2015, "Ant-Man" also stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, with Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Peña, Patrick Wilson and Matt Gerald all reported to have roles.

Sinister Director will be tasked with Marvel's The Doctor Strange

Source : inquisitr.com

With Marvel’s Avengers lineup providing hit after hit, The House That Stan Lee Built is moving into some of its lesser-known properties for summer action fare. One of the next up will be Doctor Strange, master of the mystic arts, and Marvel is tapping a notable horror director to helm it.

For the uninitiated, Scott Derrickson ( Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose ) will be tasked with the tale of Doctor Stephen Strange.
Fans can also expect that Derrickson’s Strange will feature some cameos or shouts-out to other Marvel properties. Strange was already mentioned in other Avengers-related Marvel fare, even before Derrickson was given the director’s chair.

Since Derrickson is a horror director, he and the good Doctor could be a perfect pairing, like Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Tony Stark.

Derrickson will be working with Marvel’s Kevin Feige, for whom a Doctor Strange movie is a long-lived dream come true. Executive producing Derrickson’s work will be Louis D’Esposito, Vitoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, and Stephen Broussard.

Variety has praised Derrickson being named to helm Strange, pointing out that he’s quite capable of pulling big box office receipts out of smaller budgets. Derrickson’s Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose cost less than $20 million each, but both brought in more than twice that in profits.

While Derrickson prepares to get Doctor Strange out by 2016 or 2017, Marvel is still looking for directorial talent for another of its lesser known superheroes. Ant-Man recently lost its director, but it’s still set for a July 17, 2015 release. Marvel says another director will be announced soon.

Sony in early talks with Jordan Vogt-Roberts to direct Metal Gear Solid movie

Source : deadline.com

Sony is finally getting it in gear on Metal Gear Solid, the live-action feature based on the top-selling video game. The studio is in early talks with Jordan Vogt-Roberts to come aboard and direct the film. Vogt-Roberts helmed The Kings Of Summer. The project is produced by Avi Arad, and it’s being steered by production president Michael De Luca.

This is a long-gestating project because it just took so long for the game creators and the studio to find themselves on the same page in how to tell the story of protagonist AFI FEST 2013 Presented By Audi Closing Night Gala Screening Of "Inside Llewyn Davis" - Red CarpetSolid Snake. Created by Hideo Kojima, the game has been around on PlayStation since 1998. Snake is a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit. Snake must liberate two hostages — one the president of a major arms manufacturer — confront the terrorists, and stop them from launching a nuclear strike.

I’ve always thought that the transfer of video games to movies has been largely disappointing considering how imaginative the games are, but Hollywood is running out of superheroes and kiddie toys, so maybe it’s high time vidgames took center stage.

New Regency and Ubisoft have Michael Fassbender and Macbeth helmer Justin Kurzel poised to reteam on Assassin’s Creed, and they also have Doug Liman and Tom Hardy ready to go on Splinter Cell. Both movies seem to be on a fast track. Then there are others that should have but didn’t happen like Halo, which nearly got made as a Fox/Universal co-production with Neill Blomkamp directing and Peter Jackson producing, and then there was a version of Bioshock that Gore Verbinski planned to direct for Universal. Both of those projects faltered because the studios were wary of the budgets. Vogt-Roberts is repped by UTA.

Ben Foster will be Playing The Role of Medivh in Warcraft Movie

Source : joystiq.com

We've known for almost half a year now some of the names attached to the Warcraft movie directed by Duncan Jones, but we haven't known who the actors would be playing. However, actor Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma, X-Men: The Last Stand) recently revealed to IGN that he will be playing the role of Medivh when the film hits theaters in 2016.

"He came up in a time protecting an area, and the way he protected this area was through magic," Foster said. "As peace returned to this land he took a break. He hung up his staff, so to speak, or let his guns get dusty. We meet him as his friends are returning asking for his help in a battle." We won't spoil how closely that does - or doesn't - fit with the established Warcraft lore, but you can always read up on the character if you like.

Warcraft has already finished filming, but will require extensive post-production work due to the movie's use of CG characters. Foster himself seemed impressed with the work done so far. "The way that they're pushing motion-capture - I just saw some of the test footage - it's unlike anything I've ever seen," he said. "It's performance-capture. It pushes it to the next level. It's going to be one hell of a 3D event."

Robert De Niro will join Robert Pattinson in Idol's Eye

source : joblo.com

Director Olivier Assayas just scored a welcome addition to his new film IDOL'S EYE. Robert De Niro will now join Robert Pattinson for the movie which is being described as a sophisticated heist action-thriller.

The plot is still under wraps but is said to be based on a 2007 Playboy article called "Boosting The Big Tuna" by Hillel Levin which is inspired by actual events. The story follows a bunch of regular criminals who accidentally rob a porn store backed by Chicago mafia boss Tony Accardo.

Checking out Accardo’s Wiki page, one can easily assume that De Niro might be up for the role of said mafia boss. Robert Pattinson, who is doing a great job of stepping away from being a glittery lust object by taking on more dramatic (THE ROVER) and sometimes bizarre (MAPS TO THE STARS, COSMOPOLIS) roles, should make for a good pair up with De Niro.

Ray Fisher will appear in Batman vs. Superman as Cyborg

Ray Fisher will appear in Batman vs. Superman as Cyborg

Source: Variety

Broadway star Ray Fisher has joined the cast of Batman vs. Superman, with Variety revealing that he will appear in the forthcoming film as Cyborg.

For non-fans of the comic-books, Cyborg is the alter-ego of Victor Stone, the son of a pair of scientists who used him as a guinea pig for their various experiments.

When one of said experiments went badly wrong, Stone was critically wounded, and only revived by being kitted out with a host of bionic prostheses.

Fisher's casting confirms the rumour that Zack Snyder was looking to cast a black superhero for the production, while Henry Cavill had also made noises that he would like to see Cyborg in the forthcoming sequel.

Variety reports that Cyborg will appear in a minor role in Batman vs. Superman, before getting a good deal more screen time in the Justice League movie, whenever that eventually arrives.

Directed by Snyder and co-starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Jesse Eisenberg, Batman vs. Superman will open in the UK on 6 May 2016.

Twentieth Century Fox has cast the new Marvel's The Fantastic Four!

Source: TheWrap

Twentieth Century Fox has cast the new Marvel's The Fantastic Four! Jamie Bell, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Miles Teller are Josh Trank's The Fantastic Four. TheWrap broke the news, confirming months of rumors surrounding the involvement of Jordan, Mara and Teller and were the first to name Jamie Bell as the studio's choice for Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. Bell seems to be the only one without an official offer on the table, but it is very much expected that he will be confirmed by the studio shortly.

Teller will play Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Mara will be Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman), Jordan is set to play Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) and Bell (likely through motion-capture) would be Ben Grimm (The Thing). Previous reports have suggested that Trank's iteration of the story also involves Dr. Victor Von Doom, so expect more casting on The Fantastic Four very soon.

Filming on The Fantastic Four is expected to begin in Baton Rouge this March. Josh Trank will direct the big screen adaptation, which is currently set for release on June 19, 2015.
