Jeremy Renner Reveals The Bourne Legacy Details

Source: Empire

Jeremy Renner, who can next be seen in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, talked about to Empire magazine about starring in Tony Gilroy's The Bourne Legacy.

"My character is called Aaron Cross," Renner said, "but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it's a new program and new characters."

Asked if the Treadstone program from the Jason Bourne books and movies is still involved, Renner added, "Yeah, it's that same deal, it's just a new set of agents with a different leash. It's the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you'll know it's a Bourne movie."

Universal is planning an August 3, 2012 release for The Bourne Legacy, which also stars Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Stacy Keach and Scott Glenn.

The revenge thriller is being developed through Dark Castle and Warner Bros. with Albert Hughes attached to direct. The plot sees an ex-convict tracking down those that framed him to get revenge.

Chris Evans Joins The Iceman

Source : Deadline

Chris Evans is set to replace the previously announced James Franco in The Iceman, Deadline reports. He'll appear opposite Michael Shannon in the true serial killer tale.

Ariel Vromen (Danika, Rx) is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Morgan Land (Rx), based on the book "The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer" by Anthony Bruno and on interview footage from the documentary "The Iceman Tapes: Conversations with a Killer" by Jim Thebaut. The film is officially described as follows:

"The Iceman" is the electrifying true story of Richard Kuklinski (Shannon), a notorious mob contract killer and loving family man. He earned his nickname by freezing the bodies of his victims, disguising the time of death, and throwing police off-track. He was a man who used his tendencies toward violence and detachment from consequence to create an idyllic family life. His family and neighbors believed he was an average businessman, having no idea about his deadly alternate life. Kuklinski killed over one hundred people during his life. He never felt remorse for anything he had done, except hurting his family.

Evans, who next appears in Marvel's The Avengers, plays a mentor assassin known as Mr. Softee.

DiCaprio, Maguire and Mulligan on The Great Gatsby Set

Source: Celebuzz

Celebuzz has posted new photos of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan on the set of director Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby. The movie filmed in Sydney Centennial Park in Sydney, Australia on November 18.

The Great Gatsby follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan.
It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

Eric Roth to Write David Fincher's Cleopatra

Source: Variety

First announced this past June, Cleopatra: A Life is moving forward as screenwriter Eric Roth has entered talks to draft the adaptation.

The project arrives from Producer Scott Rudin, who purchased the rights to the biography "Cleopatra: A Life" by Stacy Schiff. Angelina Jolie is attached to play the last of the Egyptian Pharoahs and David Fincher eyeing the project to potentially direct.
The story of Cleopatra has had a long history in Hollywood, including (among others) a lost silent version starring Theda Bara, a 1934 version with Claudette Colbert and, most famously, a 1963 version with Elizabeth Taylor in the title role.

Roth's next film, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, hits theaters on Christmas day in a limited release, going wide on January 20, 2012.

Kristen Stewart Offered Akira

Source: Twitch

The live-action take on Katsuhiro Otomo's classic manga moving forward, Akira may have found its Kei. Twitch reports that The Twilight Saga star Kristen Stewart has been offered to play the female lead.

Stewart joins a bevy of talent said to be up for roles, including Garrett Hedlund in the leading role of Kaneda, Gary Oldman as the Colonel and both Helena Bonham Carter and Keira Knightley for undisclosed roles (Potentially Knightley could be up for Kei as well).

The Kei character is the romantic interest of Kaneda, a member of a biker gang in a cyberpunk dystopia.

Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) is set to direct with a script from "Harry Potter" screenwriter Steve Kloves. Previously, Akira was famously adapted as an anime film in 1988, although this take on the story is said to transplant the action from "Neo-Tokyo" to "New Manhattan."

The Hobbit Teaser Coming Before the End of the Year

Source: IGN

IGN chatted with Andy Serkis, who broke the news that you can expect a teaser trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (or possibly both films) before the end of the year.

Serkis, who is again doing the performance capture for Gollum and is a second unit director on the films, said "There will be a trailer fairly soon, actually. Around Christmas time, I believe."

The most likely film it would be with is Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, since Warner Bros. is releasing that film, although The Adventures of Tintin also opens in North America right before Christmas. That film was produced by Peter Jackson and co-stars Serkis as Captain Haddock.

Another possibility is Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol's IMAX release on December 16th, much like how the film will include WB's 6-minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on December 14, 2012, followed by The Hobbit: There and Back Again on December 13, 2013.

BioShock Creator Talks Possible Movie

Source: Industry Gamers

Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine talked to Industry Gamers and asked if there has been any progress on the BioShock movie that was originally going to be directed by Gore Verbinski.

He last said that a movie was "definitely still in the conversation," but that doesn't look like its the case anymore.

"[F]or us there's no burning [desire] to have a movie made just to get it made," he said in the new interview. "For us and for Take-Two, it's really got to be something that will a) give the fans something that they want, and b) for those who don't know BioShock, really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game, and is it going to be a good representation of the game."
He added, "There are differences between games and movies, no doubt, but the movie has to draw from the same DNA in terms of the world and the story beats. But you know, we don't have a need to get it made."

Irrational Games' new BioShock Infinite game will be coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2012.
