Taken 3 to bag Liam Neeson $20m fee

Liam Neeson is on course for a huge payday to reprise his role as ass-kicking hardman Bryan Mills in a third Taken film, reports Deadline.

20th Century Fox and Luc Besson's EuropaCorp production company, which were partners on 2008's Taken and last year's Taken 2, is ready to make the Ballymena-born actor a member of the select $20m-a-movie club. Liam Neeson, 61, plays an ex-CIA operative in the series, which sees him taking bloody revenge a variety of thugs keen to mess with his family.

Having secured Neeson's services – the actor was reportedly wary of returning for a second TakenFox and EuropaCorp will now turn their attentions to his co-stars Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen. Grace plays Mills's daughter, while Janssen is his ex-wife – the pair having reconciled in part two. Olivier Megaton, who directed Taken 2, is unlikely to be back, according to Deadline. However, a screenplay by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, who wrote the first two films, is complete for part three and production is expected to begin in February 2014.

The first Taken movie made Liam Neeson a surprise action hero in his mid-50s, and the $20m (£13m) payday for part three suggests he has lost none of his currency in Hollywood. To date, the Taken movies have cost a total of $60m, yet returned more than 10 times that amount at the box office globally. Taken received a one sctar review from the Guardian's Xan Brooks, who called it a "dubious, morally bankrupt movie". Taken 2 fared better with Peter Bradshaw. He described the sequel as "tamer, [but] just as ridiculous" in his two star review.

'World War Z' sequel in the works

'World War Z' sequel in the works

Source : insidemovies.ew.com

Source close to Brad Pitt’s World War Z told The Associated Press on Monday that Paramount Pictures is likely to develop a sequel to the apocalyptic zombie thriller. The person was not authorized to announce the plans and spoke on condition of anonymity.

World War Z, based on Max Brooks’ novel, was always intended to spawn a trilogy for Brad Pitt, who stars as a United Nations inspector. But that seemed in doubt when the film ran significantly over budget, the ending had to be reshot and reports of turmoil among the filmmakers surfaced.

But the film opened strongly over the weekend, earning $66.4 million domestically and another $45.8 million internationally. That put it on course to easily recoup its production budget of about $200 million. Reviews, too, have been mostly positive, and the film earned a B+ CinemaScore from moviegoers over the weekend.

Brad Pitt, who’s also a producer on the film, has spent recent weeks traveling around the world to aggressively promote World War Z. When asked about the possibility of sequels in an interview last week, Brad Pitt said there was plenty of fodder.

“We’ve got so many good story lines stemming from the book or inspired by the book and then just generated from our own powwows,” he said. “It might still be fun. We’ve got enough material, that’s for sure.”

Roland Emmerich has revealed that Will Smith, who starred in the original Independence Day, will not be returning for the upcoming sequel.

Speaking to NY Daily News, the director confirmed that Smith wouldn't return as he'd need too much money, as well as being too big a name.

"Will Smith can not come back because he's too expensive, but he'd also be too much of a marquee name," he said. "It would be too much.

"We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half people who are new."

It was announced last week that the sequel to the 1996 hit has a planned release date of July 3, 2015, 19 years after the original exploded into cinemas. There's still no official word on whether Bill Pullman will be back or not.

Sony Announces THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 and 4 Release

Sony Announces THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 and 4 Release

Source : collider.com

Just as Warner Bros. is celebrating its successful launch of what will hopefully be a fruitful DC Comics Movie Universe with the release of Man of Steel, Sony and Marvel have swooped in to steal some of that DC thunder.  Sony Pictures has announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 will be released in theaters on June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018, respectively.  The studio rebooted the Spidey franchise last year with director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man to the tune of over $750 million in worldwide box office, and Webb is currently hard at work filming the follow-up.  However, it appears as though Sony is wasting no time in continuing the franchise even further.  Hit the jump for more.

Given that we haven’t even seen a trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 yet, details for Spider-Man 3 and 4 are unsurprisingly non-existent.  The films don’t have confirmed writers or directors, but given that Andrew Garfield and co. likely signed multi-picture contracts, the main cast is presumably locked in to appear in Spider-Man 3 and 4.  Sony is basically confirming that it will never, ever, ever give up the rights to Spider-Man, so those holding their breath for Spidey to join The Avengers can probably let it go.

In lieu of Marvel’s successful Cinematic Universe over at Disney, we got a hint of a similar kind of connectivity at the end of Webb’s first film as we saw Rhys Ifans’ The Lizard locked away and being visited by a mysterious figure.  While The Amazing Spider-Man teased “the untold story” of Peter Parker, the character’s origin was subsequently retooled into more of a mystery as the studio opted to play it out over a series of films instead of wrapping up the new origin within the first pic.  We’ll likely get more of this with Spider-Man 2, but just how much of a gameplan Sony has in mind for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 is unknown at this point.  Mary-Jane Watson is poised to be introduced in Spidey 2, played by Shailene Woodley, so one presumes that character will have a much larger role to play in these recently announced films.

Dominic Cooper and Robert Redford talk about Captain America 2

Source : www.denofgeek.com

Much of the Marvel news of late has been centred around pieces falling into place for Guardians of Galaxy, as well as the small matter of Loki not not featuring in the Avengers 2. Now there's been some updates regarding Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

First up Dominic Cooper has been chatting about his role as Howard Stark in the film. "I went off and shot something, but I can't even work out how my character can be in it. Wouldn't I be dead? But anything is possible", he said to MTV. "They are quite secretive about where they are going to go with the characters and how it will slot in, you have no idea. So you turn up, put your costume on and do as you're told. I have definitely put the costume on. I have worn the costume and we have shot something, but how it's going to enter into the next phase of what they are planning I don't know. I sound so dodgy, I don't even believe myself! I have shot some scenes".

That's far from illuminating, but that's no fault of Cooper's seems as though he's as in the dark about the film as the rest of us. That's perhaps understandable given the frustrations Marvel isfacing with regards to pictures being snapped of the production against its wishes.

Robert Redford has also been chatting about what attracted him about the film to Total Film. “I've always liked all kinds of pitches. (laughs) curveball, fastball, slowball... but it's very simple: I'm only doing it because it's different. It's not a major part", he told the magazine.

The different part is interesting given that the film is rumoured to play out very much like a political thriller, which Redford of course is very familiar with. Perhaps the fact that a major superhero movie is being framed in such a way is the appeal. Even so, regardless of how big his part is it will be great to see him in the Winter Soldier when it's released next April.

Man Of Steel Sequel Could Arrive In Theaters Next Year

Man Of Steel Sequel Could Arrive In Theaters Next Year

Warner Bros. is hoping to get Man of Steel 2 in theaters as early as next year.

Considering the studio has a certified hit on their hands, it’s not altogether surprising that executives are eager to capitalize on the film’s success.

According to Worst Previews, Warner Bros. is currently putting Man of Steel 2 on the proverbial fast track. The studio will have to work overtime if it hopes to get the next installment of the franchise in theaters by 2014.

In addition to making close to $200 million worldwide, the website reports Zack Snyder’s Superman flick earned around $190 million from cross promotions and tie-ins. Needless to say, Man of Steel 2 is going to happen. However, it’s unclear when Warner Bros. hopes to have the flick ready to go.

Warner’s Dan Fellman said the success of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel will likely help other DC characters find their way to the big screen in the next few years.

“It’s more than just a franchise for us, it really opens up the door to do combinations of the DC Comics characters. We can build them up like Marvel did and benefit from the history of DC,” he told The Wall Street Journal.

So what does this mean for the proposed Justice League movie? Reports suggest the studio is still moving forward with the project as planned. Although nothing solid about the movie has been confirmed by Warner Bros., insiders believe the flick should arrive in theaters by 2015.

The Avengers 2 Won’t Feature Loki

The Avengers 2 Won’t Feature Loki

Source : screencrush.com

This latest news might come as a bit of a disappointment for all you Loki-lovers out there — it seems Thor‘s antagonistic and mischievous brother won’t be returning for ‘The Avengers 2.’

In a recent interview with the Empire Movie Podcast, writer and director Joss Whedon revealed that Tom Hiddleston will not be reprising his role as Loki in ‘The Avengers 2′ when it hits theaters in May, 2015. That’s because there won’t be any Loki in ‘The Avengers 2.’

Whedon was asked about the status of the film, and he gave the same update we’ve heard a couple times before:

“I’ve turned in a first draft, but the story is very set. Everybody’s very much on board with the exact movie I’m trying to make which is what worked the first time.”

When asked about Loki’s role in the first film and how that might play into the sequel, Whedon shifted gears and dropped this tidbit:

“Imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, and Loki is not there to say those terrible things. “

Don’t worry, Loki fans, you can still get your fix of Asgard’s shameful villain when ‘Thor: The Dark World‘ hits theaters this November. As hinted in the trailers, though, it seems that Thor might be down to kill his pesky brother — maybe that’s why he’s not around for ‘The Avengers 2′?

David S. Goyer Talks Justice League Movie

David S. Goyer Talks Justice League Movie

Source : www.mtv.com

With Superman making a triumphant return to the silver screen in "Man of Steel," fans around the world are wondering if (or perhaps when) the world of DC Comics will get the "Avengers" treatment and pair the last son of Krypton with another hero like Batman.

MTV News spoke with David S. Goyer, the writer of "Man of Steel," at the New York City premiere of the movie to find out how that kind of meet-up might take place, but don't expect to see Christian Bale or Joseph Gordon-Levitt fighting crime opposite Henry Cavill. Goyer said that the Christopher Nolan movies, which he co-wrote, do not exist in the same universe as the newest Superman film, which ruled out the much-rumored Gordon-Levitt cameo.

David Goyer Discusses The Possibility Of Batman And Superman Teaming Up

"The 'Dark Knight' films do not exist in the same universe. Zack [Snyder] has gone on record. The fact that we have Wayne Industries on the satellite, Bruce Wayne exists in this universe," Goyer said. "Lex Luthor exists in this universe. Other metahumans do exist in this universe, so the hope is, depending on how the film does, that we'll be able to roll into some other films."

What Goyer may be referring to is a "Justice League" movie, something that he is already rumored to be writing. When MTV News' Josh Horowitz asked him about it directly, he did not hide his enthusiasm.

"If I were offered it, I wouldn't say no," Goyer said. "Well, what are you going to do after Batman and Superman? How do you top yourself? I can't go back to Metamorpho after this."

"Man of Steel" opens in theaters this Friday, June 14.

Terminator 5 may be on the way sooner than expected. Reporting from Arnold Schwarzenegger's 21st Century Financial Education Summit in Perth, Australia, TheArnoldFans.com brings an update to the state of the project which seems to mesh with yesterday's news of the franchise moving to Paramount Pictures.

"'Terminator 5' starts filming early 2014," they quote the star as having announced during his presentation.

As reported earlier this year, Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis are teaming up to script the next installment. Lussier directed Drive Angry and My Bloody Valentine 3D while Kalogridis penned Shutter Island and did some script work on James Cameron's Avatar.

Although specific quotes are not available, the site goes on to say that Arnold Schwarzenegger named January or February of 2014 for a potential start date and that he's set to receive the final screenplay for Terminator 5 (as well as his comedy sequel Triplets) in the next few weeks. Check back for updates on both projects as soon as they become available.

Paramount Pictures to Deal Terminator Movie with Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures and David Ellison's Skydance Productions to distribute the long-gestating Terminator 5, which could commence production as early as next year once a director is hired.

Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier wrote the most recent draft of the T5 script. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been linked with the sequel for some time now.

Director Justin Lin had been attached to the project at one point before dropping out to work on Fast & Furious 6.

According to TheWrap, "Megan Ellison spent more than $20 million to acquire rights to the Terminator series in May 2011, which comes with a ticking clock attached, as new copyright laws allow for North American rights to revert back to creator James Cameron in 2019, 35 years after the original 1984 movie."

Frank Marshall has signed on to produce the Assassin's Creed adaptation for New Regency and Ubisoft. The news comes just one day after producer Basil Iwanyk joined another New Regency/Ubisoft video game project, Splinter Cell.

Michael Fassbender is attached to star in Assassin's Creed, which follows the adventures of a bartender who learns he comes from a long line of assassins. He is forced by a corporation to hunt down precious artifacts, while using a device that gives him all the skills and memories of his ancestors.

We reported in January that Michael Lesslie is writing the screenplay, although a director has still not been attached yet. Frank Marshall is producing alongside Ubisoft's Eli Richbourg, Michael Fassbender, and his producing partner Conor McCaughan. No production schedule was given.

Frank Marshall most recently produced The Bourne Legacy and War Horse, and has upcoming projects such as Jurassic Park IV and Indiana Jones 5 on his slate.

Assassin's Creed comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Michael Fassbender.

Paramount Pictures is reportedly closing a deal with G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon Chu to direct a third installment of the G.I. Joe franchise.

The studio is right to bring back Chu -- he did after all completely rework and revive the film series following 2009's G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, and did so with great success. (On a budget of $130 million, Retaliation grossed $365 million globally.) As such, it only makes sense that Jon Chu would return to direct G.I. Joe 3.

According to Deadline, Skydance Productions will be back in as financing partner with Paramount. Meanwhile, the studio has a shortlist of four writers to pen the screenplay, and should reach a decision shortly.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is Possibly Bringing Havok Back

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is Possibly Bringing Havok Back

Source : splashpage.mtv.com

What's the deal with Alex Summers? The younger brother of Scott Summers — or perhaps the older brother, if we're going by the movies' continuity, which for our current purposes, we are — was first and last seen in "X-Men: First Class," but rumor has it that he won't be back for the currently shooting sequel, "Days of Future Past."

Then why is actor Lucas Till hanging around the "Days of Future Past" set?

The Havok actor was caught on camera (via CBM) posing with a fan just feet away from where director Bryan Singer is shooting the latest "X-Men" movie, a project that promises to bring the worlds of "First Class" and the original X-Men movie trilogy to a head. Till isn't spotted wearing the crazy '70s garb that some of his co-stars, like Michael Fassbender, are wearing, so perhaps Till was just on set as a fan. Or … perhaps there's something more here.

Either way, there's no denying Till was on the "Days of Future Past" set. The same fan who posed with Till for the picture also managed to pose for a picture with Singer. That's proof enough for us.

Benicio Del Toro Joins Guardians Of The Galaxy

Benicio Del Toro Joins Guardians Of The Galaxy

Source : whatculture.com

Benicio Del Toro has joined the growing cast of Marvel Studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Deadline reports.

Del Toro’s role is currently undisclosed but he will play a character that’s going to appear in multiple Marvel films. The only large role that’s still uncast – besides Rocket Raccoon and Groot – and will feature across several Marvel films is the big villain that appeared at the end of The Avengers movie – Thanos.

Del Toro has played numerous memorable villains in the past and Thanos is a big, high profile role for the A-list actor to play. It’s also expected that Thanos will make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, the last movie to appear before the much-anticipated The Avengers 2, where he might feature as the main villain. Plus – he kind of has the right head shape, right? Thanos needs a strong jaw which Del Toro has. I’m just speculating that Del Toro is Thanos but I can definitely see it.

Del Toro has recently been cast in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice and can be seen next in Jimmy P, a film that recently debuted at Cannes last month.

Del Toro joins Glenn Close, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, Dave Bautista, and Ophelia Lovibond in the James Gunn-directed space-set comic book adventure movie from Marvel Studios. Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for release on 1st August 2014.

The answer of Will "The Anomaly" starring Ian Somerhalder start film in NYC? have just answered when Ian Somerhalder just began filming the thriller The Anomaly in London last week but, according to the Belfast Telegraph, the movie will also shoot scenes in NYC.

The Anomaly, which also stars Luke Hemsworth, follows “a traumatized ex-soldier who wakes up in the back of a van, alongside a kidnapped boy, to find that he only has only nine minutes and 37 seconds of consciousness to work out why and how he got there.”

Though the Belfast paper doesn’t say when the movie will film in NYC, we assume it will be after the movie wraps up in London in a few weeks.

Joss Whedon Teases The Avengers Sequel

Source: Desde Hollywood

Last week, Marvel's The Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon dropped some interesting details about the upcoming sequel to the film, including the addition of a brother/sister team. The director has now spoken with Desde Hollywood and has teased some more about what we can expect, but first he spoke about whether Robert Downey Jr. will return as Tony Stark.

"I am not the guy who has to worry about him being replaced. He is Iron Man at this point. When I heard that he was cast I knew that something had just changed, and I usually don't know stuff like that. I was like 'Now we are in a new phase.' The way he embodies it… I love working with him. He is so perfect for it, Shane captures it so perfectly in this movie.

"I want him to play it forever. The great thing is that he has a flying metal suit. So it's not like those Charles Bronson or Roger Moore movies where you're like 'Dude, you can barely stand.' He’s got some fight in him. At the same time, if Robert decides to hang it up, he has a perfectly good excuse."

When asked why The Avengers should worry about Thanos, Whedon teased this:

"Well, Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful, he is not someone you can just trot out and punch him. Like he did in the comics, you want him to be threading through the universe and to save the big finale for the big finale. He is definitely a part of what I've got going on. The thing about the Avengers is that they are very powerful, but they're not very stable. So, there will definitely be some people that will shake them up in the next installment."

The site suggests that this could mean Thanos won't be defeated until a third "Avengers" film, but this is just speculation. Check out the full interview below.

Marvel's The Avengers 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2015.
